Skimming is a thin finishing coat of plaster over walls or ceilings that are basically sound. A reskim puts a fresh, smooth surface back on plaster that has gone tired, cracked or patchy over the years.

When you need it
- Walls or ceilings that are cracked, uneven or covered in old repairs.

How we do it
- We cover your floors and furniture before we start.
- Loose or blown plaster is cut back and filled, and cracks are taped.
- The walls are prepared so the new plaster bonds properly, then two thin coats go on and are trowelled smooth.
- We clear up and leave the walls ready to paint once dry.

What's the difference between skimming and replastering?
Skimming is a thin coat over plaster that is still sound. If the old plaster is loose, blown or crumbling, it has to be taken back first. We'll tell you which your walls need when we come and look.
Can you skim over wallpaper or paint?
Wallpaper has to come off first. Painted walls can usually be skimmed once they have been cleaned and prepared.
How long before I can paint a freshly plastered wall?
Fresh plaster typically needs about a week per coat to dry naturally before it's ready for a diluted mist coat — longer in cold or damp conditions. We'll give you a clear timeline for your specific job.
